Antokia Childrens Charity

Antokia Children's Charity, Uganda.

The Antokia Children's Charity (ACC) supports disadvantaged children in Mbarara, Uganda. It focuses on education as the only way by which these children might improve their lives and take an active part in the development of their community.

ACC operates at grass roots level, working directly with particular local schools and community organisations who know the children and understand their needs. Funding is directed to those who are identified as in greatest need, and school fees are payed directly to schools against the name of individual students.

The charity started in 2000 and was registered in 2004. Its development has been largely organic, responding quickly to the needs of those it supports. It has tried to remain small so that trustees who visit every year know personally every child, student and family ACC supports.

In addition to the support given to individual children, ACC has undertaken many projects to build classrooms, toilets and kitchens in several underfunded schools. It has also found that supporting individual children has necessitated extending support to the family, usually a sick mother or a guardian, in order to provide a background from which a child can study.

All administrative work in the UK is undertaken on a voluntary basis. In 2010 our expenditure was £43,396 of which 87% was in the form of grants and donations which directly supported the key objectives of the charity.
