If You Would Like To Help...We are grateful for any donations from our supporters, whether this is a one-off donation, the proceeds of a fundraising event, or a regular standing order payment. Even a little goes a long way in Uganda. It is possible to donate safely on line through
www.justgiving.com/antokia/donateOr contact us directly at ACC 116 Upper Grosvenor Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN1 2EX. Cheques can be made payable to Antokia Children's Shelter. Thank you. Primary SchoolingIt costs a little more than £6 per month to send a child to primary school, to provide scholastic requirements such as uniform, books and pencils and to provide 2 cooked meals per day during term time. Perhaps the most painless way of contributing is by standing order and this provides valuable continuity for the children. As a registered charity we can claim gift aid on tax payers' contributions. Standing Order forms are available from the Antokia address. Individual SponsorshipThere are always deserving children who would like to continue their education, either to go from primary to secondary school or to go on beyond that. Children in Uganda see it as a great privilege to be able to go to secondary school but those whose families have the resources are in the minority. The school year runs from January to December and we are always looking for sponsors during the year to be able to sponsor a child or older student from the next January. The cost varies. It can be as little as £80 per term (yes, that’s boarding!) but for older students it will be more, sometimes £100 per term. It is still a bargain – to give a child a real chance of reaching his/her potential in life. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please get in touch with the Antokia Charity for more details. To sponsor a child starting secondary school we ask a commitment of 4 years – to see him/her through to taking GCSE equivalents. With older students it may be a matter of 2 years to take the A level equivalent course or a teacher training course; or 2 and a half years to do a course of training, e.g. midwifery. The children sponsored by the Antokia Children’s Charity are all genuine cases of real need. We visit the area and meet all the children. Some, if they have come through the Shelter, we have known for several years.
